Sign in with a passkey

Written for: School, trust and alternative provision staff.

A passkey lets you sign in to Student Radar with your device’s fingerprint reader, face recognition or screen lock, instead of waiting for an email code. You set up a passkey once on each device you use, then sign in with it from then on.

  • Add a passkey to your account first. See Add a passkey or authenticator app.
  • Passkeys work on app.studentradar.com, in a browser that supports them. If you use Student Radar at another address, sign in with an email code instead.
  1. Go to the Student Radar sign-in page.
  2. At the top, make sure Organisation is selected.
  3. If you work in more than one kind of organisation, choose one under Organisation type: School, Trust or Alternative provision.
  4. Click Sign in with a passkey. It’s above the email box.
  5. Your browser or device asks you to choose a passkey. Choose your Student Radar passkey, then confirm with your fingerprint, face or screen lock.

You’ll see “Passkey accepted. Signing you in…” Student Radar then opens your school, or shows Welcome to Student Radar if you work in more than one place. See Switch between schools.

Sign in with a passkey appears only when all of these are true:

  • Organisation is selected. Parents and pupils don’t sign in with passkeys.
  • You’re on app.studentradar.com.
  • Your browser supports passkeys.

If the button isn’t there, type your email address and click Send sign-in code. See Sign in with an email code. Email codes always work, even after you’ve added a passkey.

If you can’t use the device your passkey is saved on, sign in with an email code instead. Then open Profile & security, click Remove next to the old passkey, and add one for your new device.

What you see What to do
“The passkey prompt was cancelled.” The prompt was closed before you confirmed. Click Sign in with a passkey to try again, or use an email code.
“Passkey sign-in is unavailable here. Use an email code instead.” Passkeys can’t be used here, so the button is hidden. Type your email address and click Send sign-in code.
“Passkey sign-in could not be completed.” Try again. If it keeps happening, sign in with an email code, then check in Profile & security that your passkey is still listed. If it isn’t, add it again.
