Alternative Provision / Risk, Compliance and SCR
Keep live, signed-off risk assessments for each young person, work through the provider duties that apply in England with evidence and owners, and keep the Single Central Record of staff and volunteer checks in the same place.
Checklists and prompts show what needs attention. Ratings, sign-off and registration decisions stay with your leaders.
Ready for scrutiny
Owners and review dates send reminders to My Actions and the calendar, so the records do not go stale between inspections.

Risk assessments
A draft goes live only when a leader signs it off, and editing a live assessment turns it back into a draft. Reviews default to every six weeks, and a coverage bar shows how many young people have a live assessment.
Single Central Record
Checks include identity, right to work, enhanced DBS, barred list, the DBS Update Service, teaching prohibition, section 128, overseas checks, qualifications, references, childcare disqualification and medical fitness, plus safeguarding, safer recruitment and first aid training. Staff added in Staff and access appear on the record with their checks still to do.
Duties and registration
The compliance checklist draws on sources including KCSIE 2026, the DfE guidance on arranging alternative provision and the DfE voluntary national standards for non-school alternative provision. When the pupils on roll suggest the provision may be offering full-time education, Student Radar prompts leaders to review whether it may need to register as an independent school.
A prompt, not a decision
The registration review is a prompt for your leaders to consider, and the checklist covers England only.
Risk, duties and staff checks each have an owner and a review date, so your team can find gaps early.
Pupil risk assessments go live only after a leader signs them off.
Each provider duty has a status, linked evidence and an owner.
Missing and expiring checks are flagged before they become a finding.

The value of a connected school
Provider staff use the same safeguarding and health tools as mainstream schools, and commissioning schools on Student Radar have their own side of the placement.

Safeguarding + Alternative Provision
Provider staff can raise a concern and authorised DSLs work it on the DSL Action Board, with the chronology and record transfer in the same place. Safeguarding records are never shared through commissioner access.
