Parent Conversations: record what was said and follow up a worry

Student Radar helps staff retain a factual record after speaking with a parent or carer or receiving a message, with a separate handover to safeguarding when a worry needs further attention.

Staff record a conversation that happened and decide whether a concern needs a separate submission. This workspace does not send a family message.

Fictional example in the actual application.

Safeguarding work

From factual context to an authorised next step

Record who spoke, what was said and what needs safeguarding follow-up, with the original conversation kept in context.

  1. 01

Choose the actual child and contact

Select the permitted pupil and the person involved, then record the date, channel and who started the conversation. A directory contact remains distinct from permission to disclose.

  2. 02

    Make the worry decision explicit

Write a factual summary, preserve an optional original message and choose no worry, wellbeing or safeguarding. Saving a conversation and submitting its safeguarding concern are separate steps.

  3. 03

Find the record again with its state intact

Read the saved card, its author and worry badge. Concern linking can be recovered without duplicating the concern, while voiding retains an error record and its reason for the safeguarding team.

  • Someone else recorded explicitly
  • Court-order prompts remain visible where relevant

Parent Conversations

Make the worry decision explicit

Write a factual summary, preserve an optional original message and choose no worry, wellbeing or safeguarding. Saving a conversation and submitting its safeguarding concern are separate steps.

  • Conversation date and received time distinct
  • Three deliberate worry choices
  • Compact safeguarding handover when needed
Fictional example.

Find the record again with its state intact

Read the saved card, its author and worry badge. Concern linking can be recovered without duplicating the concern, while voiding retains an error record and its reason for the safeguarding team.

  • Saved conversation with author and channel
  • Concern link separate from case access
  • Voided history retained
Fictional example.

A record that can be reviewed

Find the conversation again without overwriting its history.

Questions about Parent Conversations

Does recording a conversation send a message to the family?

No. Parent Conversations is a factual record of contact that happened. It is not an email or messaging composer and does not contact the family.

Can a parent conversation retain the original message and contact details?

The record includes the child, person spoken with, time, contact method, factual conversation and optional original message, with a separate safeguarding handover where needed.
