Student Radar

From the first observation to the Reception profile

EYFS Assessment Software for Nursery and Reception

Practitioners record checklist observations against the 17 Early Learning Goals through the year, then record each Reception child’s profile outcomes separately. Student Radar shows what is still unrecorded and keeps the local authority file unavailable until the profiles it covers are complete.

One platform. Everything included.

Share context and move from signal to action without buying separate modules.

£4.25 per pupil/year before volume discounts of 5% to 20%, £250 minimum/year, excluding VAT

The strongest fit

Best fit

Primary schools with Nursery and Reception classes that want EYFS observations, the end-of-Reception profile, parent reports and the local authority file beside the wider pupil record, with practitioners making every judgement.

A clear boundary

Where this is not the right tool

  • 01Moderating judgements in the software: moderation happens through your setting’s own process
  • 02Calculating a child’s Early Learning Goal outcomes: the practitioner records them, and they are not filled in from the checklist
  • 03Producing the local authority CTF file outside England

Connected school work

Built for the way schools actually work

Schools searching for “EYFS assessment software” usually need clarity, prioritisation, and a way to move from insight to action without adding another spreadsheet.

Operational outcomes this workflow is designed to support

  1. 01

A clear view of which goals have no observation yet, counted separately rather than as zero

  2. 02

Reception profiles that cannot be marked complete while outcomes are missing

  3. 03

A local authority file prepared only from completed profiles

Product intent only; these are not presented as verified customer outcome claims.

What this is designed for

Checklist judgements: not yet observed, emerging, developing or secure

Profile outcomes are recorded separately and not filled in from the checklist

Completing or reopening a profile needs an authorised member of staff

How it works in practice

01

Record observations through the year

Teachers record a judgement for each child against each goal on the EYFS checklist. A goal with no record shows as not yet observed and is counted separately. A note, photo or document can be attached to an observation, and the child portfolio shows which goals have no evidence yet.

  • Not yet observed, emerging, developing or secure
  • Evidence attached to each observation
  • Goals with no evidence, filtered in the portfolio
02

Record the Reception profile separately

At the end of Reception, the practitioner chooses an outcome for each of the 17 goals: emerging, expected or exempt. Outcomes are not filled in from the checklist. The good level of development reads “Not yet assessed” until all 12 goals that count towards it have an outcome.

  • Outcomes chosen by the practitioner
  • GLD shown with the number of goals recorded
  • Barriers and strategies alongside emerging outcomes
03

Complete, report and export

A profile cannot be marked complete until every goal has an outcome, and completing or reopening it needs an authorised member of staff. The completed profile feeds the parent report and the Year 1 transition report.

  • Complete profiles locked, reopened with a reason
  • Parent and transition reports
  • Local authority CTF export for schools in England

Workflow differences worth reviewing

Use these product capability descriptions as a procurement checklist against the tools and processes you already use.

Compared with spreadsheets and paper profiles

  • Shows which goals are still unrecorded instead of leaving blanks to interpret
  • Will not mark a profile complete while outcomes are missing
  • Checks the local authority file and says what is missing before it can be downloaded

Compared with a separate early-years system

  • Keeps EYFS records beside the wider pupil record for authorised staff
  • Uses school role permissions for recording and completing profiles
  • Carries the completed profile into the Year 1 transition report

The practical questions

FAQs

01

Does Student Radar fill in Early Learning Goal outcomes from the checklist?

No. Practitioners record checklist observations through the year and record each Reception child’s profile outcomes separately. Outcomes are not filled in from the checklist.

02

Does it include EYFS moderation?

No. Moderation happens through your setting’s own process. Student Radar records the observations and outcomes your practitioners decide on.

03

How is the good level of development shown?

GLD reads “Not yet assessed” until all 12 goals that count towards it have an outcome, “Achieved” when all 12 are expected, and “Not yet” otherwise. An exempt goal is shown as an exemption, not as emerging.

04

Who can complete or reopen a profile?

Completing, submitting, reopening and sharing a profile need an authorised member of staff. A complete profile is locked, and reopening it needs a reason.

05

Can we export EYFS Profile data for the local authority?

Schools in England can download a common transfer file once every Reception child the export covers has a complete profile and the required pupil and school details. A draft can be downloaded to check beforehand but must not be submitted. Student Radar checks the file against the published specification but cannot confirm that your local authority’s system will accept it.

06

Can parents see their child’s learning?

Schools can share a learning journal with parents by link. Parents can add notes from home, which the school reviews before they appear. Parent reports are produced from the completed Reception profile.
