Care log: record the day and prepare a checked family summary

Student Radar helps EYFS staff record everyday care against the right child and time, review room information and prepare a checked daily summary for families.

Follow the child’s agreed plan and the school’s care procedures. A diary entry or sent sheet does not replace supervision, urgent communication or the relevant specialist record.

Fictional room example. Record the observed care and check the child before acting.

Practical support

Record the day, then review what will be shared

Review the selected Early Years room, record observed care against the correct child and check the day sheet before an explicit family send.

  1. 01

    Confirm the room and child

Review the children and care recorded today. Open the intended child’s day and read its dates and coverage before adding an entry.

  2. 02

    Record what happened

Log nappies or toilet outcomes, meals, sleep and checks with proportionate notes. Review the timeline and use supported correction or undo controls when appropriate.

  3. 03

    Check the home-time account

Prepare the home-time note and preview the day sheet. Review the eligible audience before sending explicitly, then read the recorded result without assuming the family has read it.

Record care against the right child

Record care against the right child

Check the child, time and observed outcome before recording everyday care. Notes add proportionate context; they do not replace a care plan.

Fictional example of care entry for the selected child.

A dated, attributable day

Keep care observations, missing information and delivery distinct

The diary distinguishes an incomplete read, an unavailable source and a recorded outcome. Medicines, First Aid and intimate care retain their own records and permissions.

  • Room and child checked before recording care
  • Care, sleep checks and proportionate home-time notes in context
  • Day-sheet preview before an explicit family send
  • Recorded send state kept separate from guaranteed delivery or reading

Preview the account before sharing it

Preview the account before sharing it

Read the care timeline and home-time note, check what is included and review the eligible audience before an explicit send. A recorded result does not guarantee the family read it.

Fictional day-sheet example, ready for staff to review before sending.

Keep the next step in context

These are supported staff workflows. The school reviews the evidence, agrees the response and checks its outcome.

Confirm the correct child before recording care

Maintain a clear timeline with supported corrections

Review the day sheet and its recorded send result

Questions about EYFS Care log

What kinds of daily care can staff record?

The diary supports nappy/toilet and meal outcomes, sleep and checks, additional detail and home-time notes, with links to medicine and specialist records.

Is a day sheet ready to send as soon as care is entered?

Staff preview and check the day sheet before sending. Care entries should describe what actually happened; the diary also supports the school’s care procedures.
