Consults: connect the incoming plan with a reviewed response

Student Radar helps school staff review an LA EHCP consultation using the incoming plan, school context, annotations and a working decision, then retain the response sent and actual LA outcome.

An authorised person reviews the specified needs and provision. Aggregate context and generated suggestions do not decide a placement; recording a response sent is separate from actually sending it.

The consultation, proposed cohort and working decision stay visible. Fictional school example.

LA EHCP Consultations

From an incoming consultation to a considered recorded response

Connect the incoming EHCP, proposed placement, school context, working decision and reviewed letter while retaining the actual response and eventual outcome as separate records.

  1. 01

Log the incoming plan and deadline

Record the authority, receipt date, proposed year/class and actual response deadline with the incoming EHCP PDF.

  2. 02

Review the evidence and the school’s view

Annotate the specified provision, inspect the dated school context and deliberately select which insights are available to drafting. Keep the working decision under human review.

  3. 03

Save the reviewed response and retain the outcome

Edit and check the letter, send it through the school’s authorised route, then record the actual sent date/channel and the LA’s later outcome.

Working decision

Keep the provisional school view visible

Working decision distinguishes Undecided, Can meet need, Can meet need with conditions and Cannot meet need. The saved choice is separate from a response being sent or a placement being confirmed.

Review context

Choose which context belongs in the response

Class/year context retains its cohort, count coverage and recorded date. Use in response is deliberate; unselected insights are not silently adopted into the draft.

Check saved wording

Review the words that were saved

The reopened fictional response retains the staff’s request to confirm staffing and specified support. Edit, Preview, Save and Download response remain separate from external sending.

Record the actual event

Record the letter that actually went to the LA

Record response sent asks for date, recipient, channel and an explicit review statement against the saved letter. It records an event already completed through the school’s sending process; opening the form sends nothing.

Questions about Consults

Can staff annotate the incoming plan while preparing a response?

The consultation workflow includes plan annotations, school-context review and deliberately selected response evidence, alongside an editable response draft.

Is a school working decision the final placement outcome?

No. Keep the provisional school view, letter actually sent and LA placement outcome separate. Dates and aggregate context support the review without deciding it.

The value of a connected school

A plan matters when support reaches the child.

Bring the evidence around provision into the review, so the SENCO and teaching team can decide the next step together.

Follow a connection to see what it makes possible

Relevant context, with access set by each staff member’s role and responsibilities. Staff decide the response.

  1. Attendance + SEND

    Check attendance alongside planned support

Look at absence and late arrival around provision. A pupil may have a plan in place and still miss opportunities to receive that support.

  2. Assessment + SEND

Bring progress evidence to the review

Consider recorded learning and small steps alongside targets and provision. Keep the evidence visible while staff judge what is helping and what needs another look.

  3. Family communication + SEND

Include the people who know the pupil

Gather family contributions and coordinate review conversations around the same pupil, with named actions and dates to keep the agreed work moving.
