Ask the colleague who knows, and keep the answer with the pupil

Send a short question about a pupil to a colleague who can see them, and keep the reply on the pupil record rather than in an inbox.

Signals and suggested routes support professional enquiry. Staff decide what the evidence means and what should happen next.

Pings in action. Send a short question about a pupil to a colleague who can see them, and keep the reply on the pupil record rather than in an inbox.

From signal to support

From a corridor question to an answer on the record

A Ping is a short question to a colleague about one pupil. The question and the reply stay together on the pupil record, so the answer is not lost in an email or a conversation on the stairs.

  1. 01

    Ask

From the pupil profile, choose the type of Ping, a colleague who can see the pupil, a subject and a reason, and add a due date if the answer is needed before a meeting.

  2. 02

    Answer

The colleague finds it in My Pings, answers any template questions and replies. Templates add set questions where a team wants answers in the same shape.

  3. 03

    Keep

The reply is saved with the Ping under Pings on the pupil profile. If an annual review is in progress, the reply can be attached to the review as well.

Evidence in context

A question, not a task or a concern

A Ping asks a colleague for information. Work someone has to do belongs in My Actions, with an owner and a due date, and a worry about a pupil’s safety goes through Raise concern and the school’s safeguarding procedure.

  • Staff see only the Pings they have access to
  • A safeguarding lead can restrict a Ping to the sender, the recipient and the DSL and deputies
  • Sending waits until a colleague, a subject and a reason are chosen

What changes when Pings is connected

The value of Pings is the route from current evidence to an accountable next step, with the people and context around the work kept visible.

The value of a connected school

See the pattern. Bring the context.

A change in attendance or behaviour is the start of a conversation. The connected pupil record helps staff ask a better next question.

Follow a connection to see what it makes possible

Relevant context, with access set by each staff member’s role and responsibilities. Staff decide the response.

  1. SEND + Core

Check whether support is reaching the pupil

Put attendance and behaviour alongside plans, provision and review evidence. Staff can investigate missed support before deciding what needs to change.

  2. Health + Core

Bring health needs into the attendance conversation

Authorised staff can check relevant medical needs and care plans when following up absence, then agree practical support with the family.

  3. Family communication + Core

Keep the family conversation with the follow-up

Read the contact history around a pupil before reaching out. Record the next action so another colleague can pick up the conversation with context.
