Alternative Provision / AP Staff Supervision

AP staff supervision records and agreed follow-up

Student Radar helps alternative provision teams review supervision due dates and record sessions, themes and next reviews. Restricted notes and agreed actions stay available to the appropriate people; the register does not establish that supervision was effective or every staff need was met.

The supervisor and authorised senior leads make and review the record. Due dates and completed administration do not establish the quality or effect of supervision.

Fictional example in the actual application.

Alternative provision

Keep the next decision connected to its context

Review who is due, record the session that took place and retain restricted notes and agreed actions beside its themes and next due date.

  1. 01

Read the session in its own context

Identify the supervisee, supervisor, date held and next due date in the log before opening details or making a correction.

  2. 02

    Record proportionate restricted detail

Choose the correct people, themes and next date. Notes and agreed actions follow their own access boundary, separate from the register’s status information.

  3. 03

    Return to the saved session

Reopen details and read the actual recorded wording. Correct an error deliberately; voiding retains the historical entry and restores the previous supervision’s next due date.

AP Staff Supervision

Read the session in its own context

Identify the supervisee, supervisor, date held and next due date in the log before opening details or making a correction.

  • People and dates together
  • Session type visible
  • Next review distinguished from attendance
Fictional example.

AP Staff Supervision

Record proportionate restricted detail

Choose the correct people, themes and next date. Notes and agreed actions follow their own access boundary, separate from the register’s status information.

  • Notes access follows the recorded supervisor and authorised senior roles
  • Themes and next date explicit
  • Restricted actions remain in context
Fictional example.

AP Staff Supervision

Return to the saved session

Reopen details and read the actual recorded wording. Correct an error deliberately; voiding retains the historical entry and restores the previous supervision’s next due date.

  • Saved wording visible
  • Correction separate from voiding
  • Human review before the next decision
Fictional example.

Make the record practical to use

The supervisor and authorised senior leads make and review the record. Due dates and completed administration do not establish the quality or effect of supervision.

A clearer due review

Find recorded, overdue and missing sessions in scope.

A proportionate session record

Keep restricted notes beside the people and themes.

A deliberate next step

Review the agreed work and next date at the source.

Questions about AP Staff Supervision

Can we see which staff supervision is due?

Yes. Review the due register and supervision log before recording a session that actually took place.

Can agreed supervision actions connect to a later review?

Yes. Retain agreed actions and the next due date, with permitted follow-up through My Actions and restricted notes available only to the appropriate people.

The value of a connected school

A placement touches more than the timetable.

Provider staff use the same safeguarding and health tools as mainstream schools, and commissioning schools on Student Radar have their own side of the placement.

Follow a connection to see what it makes possible

Relevant context, with access set by each staff member’s role and responsibilities. Staff decide the response.

  1. Safeguarding + Alternative Provision

Raise a concern from the pupil you are working with

Provider staff can raise a concern, and authorised DSLs work it on the DSL Action Board, with the chronology and record transfer in the same place. Attendance, review and timetable views shared about a named learner leave out protected record types. Staff see summaries and only the records they are separately authorised to open, and a link does not give wider access.

  2. Health + Alternative Provision

Check medical needs before an off-site session

Authorised staff can check medical needs, medications and healthcare plans for the young people in the provision before a session, and record first aid when something happens.

  3. Commissioning school + Alternative Provision

See the placement from the commissioning school’s side

Schools that commission placements keep a provider register with due-diligence checks, placement checks before, during and after the placement, and an evidence pack they can export.
