Alternative Provision / Staff concerns review

AP staff concerns, independent routing and review

Student Radar helps authorised AP reviewers read original staff concerns, preserve uncertainty and record reasoned human assessments alongside independent routing history. It does not identify an uncertain adult automatically, decide whether harm occurred or make an external referral; staff follow the provision’s safeguarding procedures.

Staff make the assessment and any external referral through the provision’s approved procedure. Recording a review contacts nobody, and an uncertain adult description remains distinct from a verified identity.

The fictional report retains its unverified adult description, original account and independent procedure reference. Fictional school example.

Staff Concerns Review

From the original report to a traceable human judgement

Review the original adult report, preserve uncertainty, record a reasoned assessment and retain the independent route and manual escalation history.

  1. 01

Read the original account and current route

Check the reported facts, uncertainty, procedure reference and available evidence before interpreting the report.

  2. 02

Record the assessment and actual escalation decision

Select the human assessment, explain the rationale and record only the manual escalation decision or action that actually occurred.

  3. 03

Check history without rewriting the original

Reopen the recorded assessment and inspect identity/routing history; approved route changes remain explicit, separate decisions.

Find the permitted report

Start with the reviewer’s permitted queue

The fictional queue identifies an unverified adult report and its reported date. It is the current reviewer’s permitted queue, not a count of every concern held by the provision.

Record the human judgement

Keep uncertainty in the human rationale

The fictional reviewer retains Unclassified and explains the need to check context. The manual escalation field distinguishes an unrecorded decision from an actual manual action; saving the assessment contacts nobody.

Return to the saved assessment

Return to what was recorded

The reopened fictional history retains the rationale, recorded time and route/policy revisions. Later interpretation remains separate from the original description and any additive identity resolution.

Inspect the independent route

Inspect the route before changing it

The fictional report retains the original approved route and procedure reference. Reassignment requires an explicit newly approved policy revision and a human reason; it does not follow silently from publishing configuration.

Review approved configuration

Keep approval and permission distinct

The native configuration view exposes the current fictional policy and a separate proposed-policy/approval workflow. Publishing approved routing does not grant directory access or missing safeguarding permissions.

A clearer independent review record

Staff make the assessment and any external referral through the provision’s approved procedure. Recording a review contacts nobody, and an uncertain adult description remains distinct from a verified identity.

Preserve the original uncertainty

Retain the rationale and actual escalation decision

Make independent routing changes explicit

Questions about Staff concerns review

Can we review the original report and its independent route together?

Yes. The restricted review workspace brings the original account, routing history and recorded human assessments into one reviewable record.

Can we preserve an unverified identity while recording an assessment?

Yes. Preserve the uncertainty and record the reasoned assessment. Identifying an adult later and route changes require their own authority; they are not automatic determinations.

The value of a connected school

A placement touches more than the timetable.

Provider staff use the same safeguarding and health tools as mainstream schools, and commissioning schools on Student Radar have their own side of the placement.

Follow a connection to see what it makes possible

Relevant context, with access set by each staff member’s role and responsibilities. Staff decide the response.

  1. Safeguarding + Alternative Provision

Raise a concern from the pupil you are working with

Provider staff can raise a concern, and authorised DSLs work it on the DSL Action Board, with the chronology and record transfer in the same place. Attendance, review and timetable views shared about a named learner leave out protected record types. Staff see summaries and only the records they are separately authorised to open, and a link does not give wider access.

  2. Health + Alternative Provision

Check medical needs before an off-site session

Authorised staff can check medical needs, medications and healthcare plans for the young people in the provision before a session, and record first aid when something happens.

  3. Commissioning school + Alternative Provision

See the placement from the commissioning school’s side

Schools that commission placements keep a provider register with due-diligence checks, placement checks before, during and after the placement, and an evidence pack they can export.
