Alternative Provision / AP Quality Mark

AP quality standards mapping and evidence gaps

Student Radar helps alternative provision teams maintain the standards they work towards, link evidence already held and record explicit gaps for review. Evidenced is the provision’s recorded completeness decision, not an external award, accreditation judgement or proof of pupil impact.

Staff decide completeness against their actual framework. Evidenced is an internal recorded state, not an external award, accreditation judgement or proof of impact.

Fictional example in the actual application.

Alternative provision

Keep the next decision connected to its context

Maintain the standards your provision works towards, link evidence already held and keep explicit gaps available for review.

  1. 01

    Make the review decision explicit

Name what the standard covers, select its completeness and check the actual reviewed date. A new document link does not decide that the standard is evidenced.

  2. 02

Point to the evidence already held

Link a compliance duty, permitted document, workspace or evidence held elsewhere. Open the original where a source link is available; each source retains its access boundary.

  3. 03

    Describe what still needs attention

Record the concrete gap against the standard, arrange the owned work and resolve the gap only after reviewing what changed and the supporting evidence.

Point to the evidence already held

Link a compliance duty, permitted document, workspace or evidence held elsewhere. Open the original where a source link is available; each source retains its access boundary.

  • Named source type
  • Purpose explained in the note
  • Original evidence retained

Describe what still needs attention

Record the concrete gap against the standard, arrange the owned work and resolve the gap only after reviewing what changed and the supporting evidence.

  • Gap attached to its standard
  • Work ownership decided separately
  • Resolution distinct from accreditation

Make the record practical to use

Staff decide completeness against their actual framework. Evidenced is an internal recorded state, not an external award, accreditation judgement or proof of impact.

A recognisable standard

Match the map’s wording to the framework in use.

A reviewable evidence trail

Keep relationships to the original sources.

A visible remaining gap

Separate what is missing from a completeness claim.

Questions about AP Quality Mark

Can we link existing evidence to a quality standard?

Yes. Maintain the standard and connect evidence already held, retaining the source rather than creating another unsupported account.

Can we record and later resolve a gap in the standards map?

Yes. Gaps remain explicit for staff review and resolution. The map’s progress and Evidenced state do not confer an external award.

The value of a connected school

A placement touches more than the timetable.

Provider staff use the same safeguarding and health tools as mainstream schools, and commissioning schools on Student Radar have their own side of the placement.

Follow a connection to see what it makes possible

Relevant context, with access set by each staff member’s role and responsibilities. Staff decide the response.

  1. Safeguarding + Alternative Provision

Raise a concern from the pupil you are working with

Provider staff can raise a concern, and authorised DSLs work it on the DSL Action Board, with the chronology and record transfer in the same place. Attendance, review and timetable views shared about a named learner leave out protected record types. Staff see summaries and only the records they are separately authorised to open, and a link does not give wider access.

  2. Health + Alternative Provision

Check medical needs before an off-site session

Authorised staff can check medical needs, medications and healthcare plans for the young people in the provision before a session, and record first aid when something happens.

  3. Commissioning school + Alternative Provision

See the placement from the commissioning school’s side

Schools that commission placements keep a provider register with due-diligence checks, placement checks before, during and after the placement, and an evidence pack they can export.
