The school's working plan for a looked-after child, open only to those who need it

Designated teachers record aspirations, views, targets and support, link the local authority ePEP, and record each review.

Student Radar organises evidence for leadership review. Leaders retain responsibility for evaluation, assurance and decisions.

Questions for the working day

The questions this answers

Who can open the plan?

The designated teacher, the DSL and senior leads with PEP access. Teaching a pupil does not give access to their plan, and the school names its designated teachers in Student Radar.

What goes in it?

A PEP for a looked-after child, or a voluntary plan for a previously looked-after child: strengths and aspirations, the child’s views, carers’ views, the education baseline, the support network, and targets with owners, review dates and the funding requested, agreed and used.

Where does the local authority ePEP fit?

Alongside it. The plan holds the ePEP reference and a link to it, and preparing a meeting pack or recording a review sends nothing to the local authority. Approval stays in the ePEP process.

What happens at review?

A meeting pack is prepared as a PDF and shared through the school’s own secure route. The decision, reasons and next steps are kept as a fixed record, and the next review is scheduled.

Evidence in context

A working plan that shows its gaps

The plan compares its planning basis with the child’s recorded care status and shows a mismatch rather than changing either. School evidence for the review period lists each source, including ones with nothing recorded, so a gap is not hidden.

  • A blank funding amount means unknown, not zero
  • A plan whose lead cannot open it is flagged, so the review reminder is not lost
  • Available to schools in England, where Personal Education Plans apply
