Lead / Appraisal & Staff Review

Appraisal & Staff Review: connect objectives, evidence and sign-off

Student Radar helps school leaders organise appraisal cycles, connect objectives with standards evidence and obtain review signatures. Development requests, 360 feedback and restricted pay recommendations support separate authorised decisions; the workspace does not make employment or pay decisions.

Authorised staff make appraisal and pay decisions. A rating, task completion or CPD request does not establish improved performance or replace the required review signatures.

The fictional review remains Not started, ungraded and unsigned. Fictional example.

Plan, record, review

Keep the staff development process connected

Create the right review cycle, propose objectives, record standards evidence and obtain the actual parties’ signatures, with development, feedback and restricted pay decisions kept distinct.

  1. 01

Plan the dates before activating a cycle

Cycle management separates the review framework and stage deadlines from individual signatures.

  2. 02

Create a draft with a deliberate framework

The fictional teaching cycle uses Teachers Standards and ordered objective, mid-year and final dates.

  3. 03

Check the retained cycle before making it active

The created fictional cycle remains Draft; activating reminders is a separate action.

A retained record with a clear professional decision

Authorised staff make appraisal and pay decisions. A rating, task completion or CPD request does not establish improved performance or replace the required review signatures.

A cycle staff can review before activation

The chosen framework and ordered stage dates are retained in a draft before reminders become active.

Evidence attached to the actual professional judgement

Objectives, standards, stages, rater roles and justifications preserve context rather than substituting a single unsupported score.

A review completed by its actual parties

Relationship-aware transitions and signatures keep agreement distinct from management access, development requests and pay decisions.

Questions about Appraisal & Staff Review

Can we choose the professional framework for an appraisal cycle?

Yes. Cycles offer Teachers Standards, Headteachers Standards, Early Career Framework and NPQ, with separate objective, mid-year and final dates.

Does changing a review stage complete its sign-off?

No. At Final submitted, the actual appraisee and assigned reviewer must provide their required signatures. Content freezes when either party signs.

Can an appraisal lead to a CPD request?

Where Request CPD is offered, staff can submit a development request for a separate decision. It does not approve training or enrol the colleague.
