Statutory cohorts: keep attendance case review and next steps clear

Student Radar brings attendance-related registers and case work together so staff can read the evidence, record an authorised decision and name the next step and review.

Alerts and thresholds prompt authorised review. Recorded referral stages and notification dates do not send referrals, issue notices or prove provision was delivered.

Fictional school example; read the selected scope, dates and any coverage or availability notices.

Statutory cohorts

Keep the case, its owner and the next review connected.

Review England statutory attendance registers and record a deliberate response with the right permissions.

  1. 01

    Choose the right statutory record

Move between children missing education, part-time timetables, EHE, medical absence, penalty consideration and leavers/destinations. Each has its own evidence, statuses and permitted actions. An absence alert or threshold prompts review; it does not make a legal finding.

  2. 02

Record the human decision and the practical next step

Open a CME case with a stage, owner, review date and next step, then return to update or resolve it with an outcome. Manage reduced timetables through draft, agreement, approval, activation and check-ins. Medical and penalty views keep support and evidence alongside the next authorised review.

  3. 03

Keep recording separate from external action

Leaver destinations have distinct confirmation evidence and LA-notification dates. A referred stage, recorded notice or notification date records what happened; it does not send a referral, issue a notice or deliver provision. Review history and current scope before sharing a page export or confirming a case outcome.

Inspect

Keep the CME next step in the case

A deliberately opened case reopens with its recorded next action. Stage, owner and review date remain explicit; an alert never opened the case automatically.

Act deliberately

Plan the route back to full-time education

The timetable form brings dates, weekly pattern, support and the return route together. Saving a draft is separate from parent agreement, approval and activation.

Review

Record a destination without inventing confirmation

The leaver record separates where the pupil went, the deletion-ground record and LA-notification date. Confirmation has its own evidence and source.

A clearer school review

Keep the working record useful to the people making the next decision.

Keep a case’s next step and ownership visible

Preserve agreement and approval before activation

Record destination evidence separately from external notification

Questions about Statutory cohorts

Which attendance-related records can staff review?

The workspace includes continuous absence, CME, part-time timetables, EHE, medical absence, attendance cases or notices, and leaver destinations.

Does a recorded threshold or saved case issue a notice?

No. Alerts, thresholds and saved records support review. They do not themselves make a referral, issue a notice or establish that a statutory duty is met.

The value of a connected school

See the pattern. Bring the context.

A change in attendance or behaviour is the start of a conversation. The connected pupil record helps staff ask a better next question.

Follow a connection to see what it makes possible

Relevant context, with access set by each staff member’s role and responsibilities. Staff decide the response.

  1. SEND + Core

Check whether support is reaching the pupil

Put attendance and behaviour alongside plans, provision and review evidence. Staff can investigate missed support before deciding what needs to change.

  2. Health + Core

Bring health needs into the attendance conversation

Authorised staff can check relevant medical needs and care plans when following up absence, then agree practical support with the family.

  3. Family communication + Core

Keep the family conversation with the follow-up

Read the contact history around a pupil before reaching out. Record the next action so another colleague can pick up the conversation with context.
