Cohort Summary: compare groups and open the pupils behind totals

Student Radar helps school staff compare pupil groups by year, review attendance and inclusion together, and open permitted pupils behind a total for a closer look.

Read how many pupils have attendance before using a cohort rate. A custom review group does not rewrite MIS facts or grant access to safeguarding dimensions.

Fictional school example; read the selected scope, dates and any coverage or availability notices.

Compare year groups, attendance and permitted inclusion dimensions, then open the pupils behind a total.

  1. 01

    Choose a focused school view

Attendance focus, Inclusion groups, Safeguarding groups, Custom columns and All columns give the team different ways into the same review. Read pupils in view and attendance coverage together; two pupils with recorded attendance are not a complete three-pupil picture.

  2. 02

Open the total that needs a conversation

Select a year-group or total cell to inspect its pupil list. Search within that cell, review coverage and open the permitted pupil workspace. Separate safeguarding access keeps restricted dimensions from becoming an ordinary attendance shortcut.

  3. 03

    Keep local review groups explicit

Create a named custom column for a clear school purpose, add or remove its pupils and reopen it to check membership. Checkbox changes save immediately; name and description use Save column details. Export PDF captures the selected scope and coverage for a leadership discussion without rewriting the school’s source records.

Open the children behind the number

A selected table cell opens its matching pupil list. Staff can search the list and follow a permitted pupil link without changing the scope of the original question.

Act deliberately

Name the group and check its membership

The fictional Breakfast club review column reopens with Ada included. Local group membership remains separate from the school’s recorded MIS facts.

Review

Keep coverage beside the group picture

Focused inclusion columns help a team discuss one question. A high rate based on two of three pupils remains incomplete evidence.

Questions about Cohort Summary

Can a cohort total lead to the pupils behind it?

Permitted staff can open totals and find the matching pupils, while reviewing the available dimensions and standard-column membership.

Can we maintain custom pupil groups for a review?

Cohort Summary includes creation and maintenance of custom groups alongside standard columns, with a snapshot export of the intended view.

The value of a connected school

See the pattern. Bring the context.

A change in attendance or behaviour is the start of a conversation. The connected pupil record helps staff ask a better next question.

Follow a connection to see what it makes possible

Relevant context, with access set by each staff member’s role and responsibilities. Staff decide the response.

  1. SEND + Core

Check whether support is reaching the pupil

Put attendance and behaviour alongside plans, provision and review evidence. Staff can investigate missed support before deciding what needs to change.

  2. Health + Core

Bring health needs into the attendance conversation

Authorised staff can check relevant medical needs and care plans when following up absence, then agree practical support with the family.

  3. Family communication + Core

Keep the family conversation with the follow-up

Read the contact history around a pupil before reaching out. Record the next action so another colleague can pick up the conversation with context.
