Connect / Parent Log

What families notice at home, recorded where the school plans support

Parents record structured observations about their child and say whether they would like a response; SEND staff review each entry.

Student Radar helps staff communicate clearly and consistently. The school remains responsible for every message and decision.

Parent Log in action. Parents record structured observations about their child and say whether they would like a response; SEND staff review each entry.

Questions for the working day

The questions this answers

What can a parent tell the school?

A short observation from home under a category such as strength, trigger, strategy that helped, wellbeing or transition, with optional tags and notes on what helped and what made it harder.

Does the parent want a reply?

Each entry says so: a routine update, a request for the school to get back to them, a safeguarding note the school flags for review, or a request for urgent contact when the entry is reviewed.

Who reads it?

Only school staff. SEND staff review entries and can include one as evidence in the child’s support plan, leave it out or escalate it, and the parent sees the status change.

What is it not for?

Emergencies. Entries may not be read straight away, so the parent app tells families to phone the school about a safety worry and to call 999 if a child is in immediate danger.

Evidence in context

Home observations with their status attached

Each entry keeps its category, the parent’s words, whether a response was asked for and where it stands, so the family and the school read the same record.

  • Statuses from Update through Reviewed, Included, Not used, Escalated and Archived
  • A separate log for each child
  • Recent entries listed for the parent, with older ones a click away

The value of a connected school

The message is one part of the pupil’s day.

Family communication becomes more useful when the information, response and next school action stay connected.

Follow a connection to see what it makes possible

Relevant context, with access set by each staff member’s role and responsibilities. Staff decide the response.

  1. Health + Connect

Know which health follow-up still needs a reply

First aid and medication records keep parent notification status with the event. Staff can see where follow-up is needed without reconstructing a separate message trail.

  2. SEND + Connect

    Plan participation around the pupil

Trip planning brings consent together with relevant medical and SEND information for authorised staff, so support arrangements can be checked before leaving school.

  3. Assessment + Connect

Make the progress conversation easier to prepare

Use recorded learning and approved reports to prepare family conversations, with the pupil’s evidence close to the discussion and its agreed next steps.
