Families: prepare class updates and check who can receive them

Student Radar helps teachers prepare weekly updates and class-family messages, and check which pupils have an eligible family account that can receive app messages before communicating.

Coverage is not delivery, and delivery does not prove a family read or acted. Staff review the intended audience and content.

Fictional class, messages and reachability example; no real family contacted.

Class communication

From class news to a reviewable communication outcome

Prepare, preview and check the intended recipient coverage before taking a deliberate communication action.

  1. 01

    Make the weekly update useful

Write the class learning summary, choose family-visible Calendar events and add practical reminders. Preview the complete update before scheduling or requesting approval.

  2. 02

Know who is missing from app coverage

Contacts distinguishes pupils with an eligible app recipient from those needing office follow-up. Reachability is not delivery, and missing relationships are not resolved by guessing another address.

  3. 03

Draft to the intended class and inspect the result

The audience stays fixed to the permitted class and the app channel. Save without sending, then read the actual history and source thread to continue the workflow.

Know who is missing from app coverage

Contacts distinguishes pupils with an eligible app recipient from those needing office follow-up. Reachability is not delivery, and missing relationships are not resolved by guessing another address.

  • Pupil coverage count and named/unlisted limits
  • Office-owned family account checks
  • Language information distinct from translated delivery

The audience stays fixed to the permitted class and the app channel. Save without sending, then read the actual history and source thread to continue the workflow.

  • Save draft distinct from send/approval
  • Current state and delivery line in history
  • Canonical Connect thread where permitted

A class message with its audience and state intact

Keep draft, approval, scheduled, sent and delivery outcomes distinct.

Preview what families will see

Class learning, selected events and reminders can be reviewed together before dispatch.

Identify the app reachability gap

Staff can ask the office to resolve missing or uncertain family relationships.

Avoid mistaking a draft for delivery

History and source-thread status make the next permitted action visible.

Questions about Families

Can staff see gaps in app message reachability?

Families shows reachability information and Contacts so staff can check which pupils have an eligible family account that can receive app messages.

Does saving a weekly update mean it was delivered?

No. Draft, approval, scheduled and delivered states are different. Read the history and delivery information rather than assuming every family received a saved update.

The value of a connected school

The message is one part of the pupil’s day.

Family communication becomes more useful when the information, response and next school action stay connected.

Follow a connection to see what it makes possible

Relevant context, with access set by each staff member’s role and responsibilities. Staff decide the response.

  1. Health + Connect

Know which health follow-up still needs a reply

First aid and medication records keep parent notification status with the event. Staff can see where follow-up is needed without reconstructing a separate message trail.

  2. SEND + Connect

    Plan participation around the pupil

Trip planning brings consent together with relevant medical and SEND information for authorised staff, so support arrangements can be checked before leaving school.

  3. Assessment + Connect

Make the progress conversation easier to prepare
